
SeaWolves Drop Series Opener to Trenton

Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves could not combat a strong offensive output on Tuesday night at Waterfront Park as they dropped the series opener to the Trenton Thunder 11-4.
Trenton jumped ahead in the first inning against Erie starter Mark Sorensen. Abraham Almonte led off with a single and Kevin Mahoney walked putting two on for Ronnier Mustelier. Mustelier doubled down the left field line, plating Almonte for a 1-0 lead. With runners on second and third, Cody Johnson grounded out, plating Mahoney for a 2-0 lead. With two outs, Luke Murton singled home Mustelier for a 3-0 Trenton edge.
The Thunder added to its lead in the third. With two on and one out, Mustlier came up with his second double of the game, clearing the bases, giving Trenton a 5-0 edge.
Trenton added two runs in the third to go ahead 7-0 against Erie reliever Zach Miner. With two outs, Jeff Farnham walked and was tripled home by Walter Ibarra. Ibarra scored on an Almote base hit.
Erie got on the board in the top of the fifth against Trenton starter Brett Marshall. Rawley Bishop led off and slammed a solo home run to straight away center. The solo shot made it a 7-1 game.
Trenton struck right back taking its largest lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth against reliever Patrick Cooper. Yadil Mujica led off with a triple and he scored on a one-out Ibarra single. Almote doubled to put a pair in scoring position. Mahoney singled home one and Mustelier hit into a fielder's choice scoring another making it 10-1 Thunder.
The 'Wolves scratched out one in the sixth. Brandon Douglas reached on an error, Niuman Romero singled and Jordan Lennerton walked, loading the bases. With one two outs, Rob Brantly walked bringing home Douglas, scoring Erie's second run.
After Trenton plated one in the bottom of the seventh, Erie got one back in the eighth. Douglas walked, Romero singled and Bishop walked. Brantly singled home Douglas to make it 11-3.
Erie got one in the ninth against reliever Michael Dubee. Brent Wyatt and Jamie Johnson each singled while Douglas walked loading the bases. Romero hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Wyatt making it 11-4.
The loss drops the SeaWolves to 0-6 in series openers this season.
Sorensen (0-1) took the loss allowing five runs on six hits with a walk in two innings of work.
Marshall (3-1) earned his second consecutive win over Erie tossing 5.2 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits.
The SeaWolves and Thunder meet in the middle game of the three-game series on Wednesday night at Waterfront Park.7:05 First Pitch. Righty Zack Segovia (0-2, 5.17 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against Andy Pettitte (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
