Harrisburg Senators News Release
On a brutally cold night in Altoona, the Senators swipe seven bags en route to a 5-1 win over the Altoona Curve. Jeff Kobernus steals four more, including home, in the game.
The Sens scored twice in the first on an rbi single off the bat of Destin Hood and one from Chris Rahl. They tacked on two more in the third with a run scoring on a sac fly from Hood and a Kobernus steal of home.
Devin Ivany capped the Senators' scoring with a solo home run in the fourth giving the Senators a 5-0 lead at the time, more than enough for Jeff Mandel.
Mandel improves to 2-1 on the season with the win, his second straight over Altoona. Harrisburg turned inning-ending double-plays in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to help Mandel escape further trouble.
Altoona finally broke through for their lone run in the sixth on a double off the bat of Matt Curry scoring Adalberto Santos.
Marcos Frias pitched two scoreless innings followed by Kevin Pucetas, who allowed a couple of runners to reach in the ninth. Christian Garcia retired the final two batters to earn his second save on the season.
Eury Perez snapped out of his slump with two hits and he was joined by Jeff Kobernus and Devin Ivany, who had a triple to go with his home run.
Game two of the series is Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. with LH Danny Rosenbaum on the hill for the Sens. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website and iHeart Radio and on your iPod or iPad beginning at 6:10 p.m.
