SeaWolves Belt Five Home Runs in 7-1 Win at Bowie

The SeaWolves clubbed a season-high five home runs on Tuesday night at Price George's Stadium as they took down the Bowie Baysox, 7-1, in the series opener.

The SeaWolves took the lead in the top of the second against Baysox starter Antonio Velez when Gage Workman snapped a three-game hitless streak with a towering home run to straight away center for a 1-0 lead. The home run for Workman was his fourth and first since April 20.

Erie added to the lead in the third when Dillon Dingler clubbed a two-out, solo home run for a 2-0 advantage. It was the fourth home run for Dingler and his first since April 28.

The Baysox responded in the bottom of the third against Erie starter Austin Bergner when Cody Roberts led off and connected on a solo home run, cutting the SeaWolves lead down to a run.

The SeaWolves exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth Luis Carpio led off and crushed a ball to the opposite-field for his first home run. Dingler singled with one out to notch his second three-hit game of the season. Kerry Carpenter, who earlier in the game singled to extend his hitting streak to six straight games, belted his team-leading 12th home run for a 5-1 Erie lead. Quincy Nieporte walked with two outs and Parker Meadows homered to right for a 7-1 advantage. The home run for Meadows was his second in the past three games.

Bergner started the bottom of the fifth inning and was pulled with two outs and two on base. Billy Lescher entered and got Erie out of the jam. Lescher combined with Nick Kuzia and Zac Houston to fire 4.1 scoreless innings.

Kuzia (2-3) earned the win hurling two frames with no walks and two strikeouts.

Velez (0-5) took the loss for Bowie allowing seven runs on nine hits with a walk and seven strikeouts in five innings.

Bergner took a no-decision allowing a run on three hits with four walks and five strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

The win for the SeaWolves puts them back to their high-water mark at four games above .500.
