Sea Dogs Win Game One, Game Two Postponed

New Britain, CT) - The Portland Sea Dogs defeated the New Britain Rock Cats, 4-2 in Game 1 of a doubleheader but rain postponed the night cap at New Britain Stadium. Portland ended a four-game losing streak and will make-up Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader during the final series of the season (August 31-September 3).

The Sea Dogs scored twice off losing pitcher Jay Sawatski (3-3) in the first inning. Jeff Corsaletti led off with a walk and advanced to third base on Cory Keylor's double. Jed Lowrie knocked in the game's first run with an RBI single to left field and Jeff Natale followed with a sacrifice fly.

Corsaletti and Lowrie accounted for Portland's final two runs with solo homers. Sawatski worked four innings, allowing four runs and four hits.

Andrew Dobies made the spot start for Portland, working four scoreless innings on two hits but did not figure in the decision. Dobies worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning by striking out David Winfree to end the inning.

Clay Buchholz (7-2) made his first professional relief appearance, working one and 1/3 innings on two hits, one run, a walk and one strikeout.

Mike James allowed a two-out homer in the seventh inning to Kyle Geiger but managed his 14th save of the season.

The Sea Dogs and Rock Cats play game two of their series on Thursday night at New Britain Stadium. RHP Charlie Zink (8-2, 2.59) makes his 13th start of the season for Portland; he'll take on LHP Ryan Mullins (0-2, 3.60)
