Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Marcos Carvajal and three Binghamton Mets relievers combined to limit the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to two hits in a 4-3 win at NYSEG Stadium Wednesday. The win snaps Binghamton's two-game losing streak.

The B-Mets (35-47) went ahead for good with a three-run second. Caleb Stewart and Drew Butera began the frame with singles off Kurt Isenberg before Jamar Hill doubled in Stewart and J.E. Cruz singled home Butera. Isenberg (3-5) then threw a wild pitch that brought in Hill for a 3-0 lead.

New Hampshire's (45-38) first hit was a Robinzon Diaz RBI single off Carvajal (3-6) in the third. Marcos then retired the next seven in a row before walking Manny Mayorson in the sixth. Mayorson moved to second on an error, stole third and scored on another error that pulled New Hampshire within 3-2. Carvajal struck out a season-high-tying eight over six innings.

Mark Kiger led off the sixth with a homer to left that put the B-Mets ahead 4-2 before Mayorson led off the eighth with a double off Brandon Nall and scored on a pair of groundouts.

Carlos Muñiz followed Nall and got the final four outs for his 14th save in 17 chances.

Thursday, the B-Mets play the second game of their three-game set vs. the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Michael Devaney (3-6, 4.85) will start for the B-Mets against lefty Ricky Romero (0-2, 4.44) of New Hampshire. Game time is 7:05 from NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: Binghamton's last two hitter came 5/8 vs. AKR/2 in a seven-inning game...four of the last five B-Mets starters have lasted at least six innings...Wilson Batista started at shortstop, marking the first time this season Jose Coronado did not start there.
