Portland Takes Game One Of Doubleheader

New Britain, CT - Jeff Corsaletti and Jed Lowrie both had two hits with a solo home run to lead Portland to a 4-2 win over the Rock Cats in the opening game of a Fourth of July doubleheader.

Jay Sawatski (3-3) surrendered four runs on four hits in four innings. Corsaletti opened the first inning with a walk and Cory Keylor followed with a double. Lowrie then delivered an RBI single to left field. Hamden native Jeff Natale added an RBI sac fly for a 2-0 lead. Corsaletti homered in the second inning and Lowrie added a solo shot of his own to lead off the third for a 4-0 advantage.

Andrew Dobies fired four shutout innings, allowing just two hits. Red Sox prospect Clay Buchholz came on in relief for the first time this season. Buchholz entered the game in the fifth inning and allowed a double to Matthew Allegra. Kyle Geiger's infield groundout advanced Allegra to third. Luke Hughes then delivered a single to left field to score Allegra and put the Rock Cats on the board, 4-1.

Buchholz (7-2) finished with two hits and one run through 1 1/3 innings. Michael James picked up his 14th save of the season with 1 2/3 effective innings in relief. He allowed one run - a solo home run to Kyle Geiger in the ninth - and struck out three.

For the Rock Cats, Frank Mata fired three shutout innings in relief.
