
Sea Dogs Rumble for 9-6 Win Over Ponies

Binghamton, New York- The Portland Sea Dogs (20-20, 60-49) open the series with a 9-6 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (19-20, 54-54) on Tuesday night.
Tyler Dearden matched a season-high with four RBI while also going two-for-four at the plate with a homer and a single. Alex Binelas and Corey Rosier also recorded multi-hit days going two-four-five and two-for-four respectively while Nick Yorke launched his thirteenth homer of the season. Brainer Bonaci extended a seven-game hit streak with a double in the third inning.
Portland hit three consecutive doubles in the top of the third to ignite the scoring. Alex Binelas reached with a leadoff double (16) before an RBI double from Corey Rosier (19) brought Binelas home. Bonaci doubled (3) to score Rosier and Portland led 2-0. Dearden came to the plate and blasted his sixth homer of the season to right center field and the two-run shot put Portland up 4-0.
The Sea Dogs continued the scoring in the top of the fourth after back-to-back bases loaded walks drawn by Dearden and Yorke extended the 6-0 lead.
Binghamton cut the Portland lead in half in the bottom of the fifth after a three RBI triple from Rowdey Jordan made it 6-3 Portland.
In the top of the sixth, Dearden hit an RBI single before a two-run blast off the bat of Nick Yorke extended the lead. The shot to center field marked his thirteenth of the season and Portland led 9-3.
Binghamton plated one in the bottom of the sixth after an RBI double from Hayden Senger.
Agustin Ruiz hit a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the seventh but Portland held the 9-5 lead.
Drew Gilbert launched a solo homer in the bottom of the eighth but Portland held on to a three-run lead.
Portland starter RHP Grant Gambrell (5-3, 3.56 ERA) earned the win after pitching 5.0 innings allowing three runs on five hits while walking four and striking out four. The save was awarded to Ryan Zeferjahn (2) after pitching a perfect ninth with one strikeout. The loss was issued to Binghamton starter RHP Blase Tidwell (1-2, 6.46 ERA) after pitching 3.2 innings allowing six runs on six hits who;e walking four and striking out five.
The Sea Dogs return to Mirabito Stadium tomorrow, August 16th, 2023 for game two of a six-game series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. First pitch for game two is slated for 6:35pm. Portland will start RHP Hunter Dobbins (2-4, 5.70 ERA) while Binghamton will send RHP Tyler Stuart (2-1, 3.81 ERA) to the mound.
