The Harrisburg Senators opened their most important series since 2019 with a 5-4 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Tuesday night at the Diamond in Richmond. Richmond scored three times in the first inning on the first of two home runs by Shane Matheny. Richmond led 4-0 when James Wood hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Matheny's second home run made it 5-1 Richmond. The Senators loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth inning, then scored three runs when Frankie Tostado reached on a three-base error, but he was left at third base to end the game.
The Big Play
Shane Matheny's three run home run with two outs in the first inning on a 3-1 count was the big play, and the difference, in the game Tuesday night.
On Capitol Hill
Michael Cuevas started and went the first four innings, taking the loss. He allowed four runs on seven hits. Cuevas faced 18 batters... Tyler Schoff followed and allowed a run on a hit in two innings of work... Odalvi Javier tossed two scoreless innings.
With the Gavel
James Wood homered, had two singles and scored twice... Jacob Young singled to extend his hitting streak to 11 games... Harrisburg had just six hits.
