Bryce Ball knocks three hits and two RBI including the go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Akron RubberDucks to the 4-2 comeback victory over the Erie SeaWolves in the series opener on Tuesday night at Canal Park. Cleveland Guardians pitcher Cal Quantrill struck out four and allowed one run in his rehab start.

Turning Point

After tying the game twice, the RubberDucks finally looked for their first lead of the night in the bottom of the eighth. Aaron Bracho got the offense going with a leadoff double before Ball lined a single past the diving first baseman to put Akron ahead 3-2. Micael Ramirez followed by splitting the gap in right center for a double that allowed Ball to score from first and make it 4-2 RubberDucks.

Mound Presence

Quantrill looked sharp early getting a strikeout and flyout to open his start. Jace Jung got the right-hander for a solo home run, but Quantrill was able to avoid further damage the rest of the way. In total, Quantrill finished his rehab start after tossing 3.2 allowing the one run on four hits while striking out four. Tommy Mace followed after a rain delay and looked strong allowing just two hits and one unearned run over 4.1 innings while punching out four. Bradley Hanner tossed a scoreless ninth.

Duck Tales

Akron answered Erie's first inning run in the bottom of the fifth. Ball singled to open the inning followed by a Ramirez walk and two batters later a hit-by-pitch of Gabriel Rodriguez to load the bases with one out. Connor Kokx hit a slow roller past Danny Serretti at third and bobbled by Corey Joyce at short to allow Ball to score and tie the game 1-1. After Erie took the lead in the sixth, the Ducks once again answered back on a Ball RBI single to make it 2-2.
