Sea Dogs fall in 10-innings to the B-Mets 3-2

(Binghamton, NY) - The Binghamton Mets (27-22) beat the Portland Sea Dogs (28-19) 3-2 in 10 innings on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. Danny Muno scored the winning run on a throwing error by 1B Travis Shaw, attempting to retire Allan Dykstra at first base for the second out of the 10th.

Jeff Walters (1-2) earned his first Double-A win, working two scoreless innings on a walk and three strikeouts.

Will Latimer (0-4) recorded one out in the 10th inning to take the loss. Latimer walked Danny Muno to start the frame, retired Josh Rodriguez on a sac-bunt and intentionally walked Cesar Puello. Dykstra's grounder was hit wide of first; Shaw looked at second base and tossed it over Latimer to end the game.

Binghamton starter Logan Verrett was perfect in six of seven innings but Portland scored three times in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. With two outs, Matty Johnson singled and stole second base. Shannon Wilkerson reached on an infield single, but a throwing error by the third baseman, allowed Johnson to score. Xander Bogaerts lined a run-scoring single to right.

Drake Britton worked five scoreless frames on two hits, four walks and four strikeouts. Britton stranded five runners and held Binghamton 0-for-3 with runners-in-scoring position. Rafael Perez made his debut in the Red Sox system and tossed a perfect sixth.

Binghamton tied the game off Pete Ruiz in the eighth. Muno led off the frame with a walk and scored a two-run homer by Rodriguez.

Portland is 3-2 in extra-innings this season and is 6-6 during a 17-game stretch against Binghamton and New Hampshire.

The Sea Dogs and Binghamton Mets continue their four-game series on Sunday night at NYSEG Stadium with a 6:35 first pitch. Knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (1-1, 4.03) makes his fifth start of the season for Portland. Binghamton counters with Right-hander Rafael Montero (4-3, 3.47).
