Altoona Curve News Release

ABOUT YESTERDAY...: Altoona's offense was happy to be home on Friday night as they blew out the Richmond Fly- ing Squirrels, 14-4, in the first of four games at Peoples Natural Gas Field over Memorial Day Weekend. The Curve offense tied season highs in runs scored (14) and hits (18) in the pummeling of Richmond. Jarek Cunningham recorded the club's third four-hit day in the win while Carlos Paulino drove in four runs to set a new career high. Scoring four of the 14 runs in the win was Mel Rojas, Jr., who reached base three times via the walk and also had a hit in the win. Starter Jameson Taillon (3-5) allowed a leadoff home run to Jarrett Parker to start the game but did not surrender a run after that in his five innings of work. He struck out six and walked three for his third win of the season. Quinton Miller and Zack Thornton pitched in relief with scoreless outings on Friday night as well.

CURVE/SQUIRRELS SERIES: Altoona and Richmond will meet for the third straight weekend and the last time this season at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The Curve own a slight edge in the series thus far, winning seven of the 13 games played. Of the seven wins the Curve have accumulated, five have come here at home. The two teams will not meet again after this series until Aug. 22-25 in Richmond at The Diamond.

FOR ALTOONA: RHP Stolmy Pimentel toes the slab for the Curve on Saturday looking to turn around what has been a tough month of May for the right hander. Pimentel has allowed 17 runs in his last 17.1 innings pitched over his last three starts after at one point leading the Eastern League in ERA. He matched a career-high seven innings last time out on Monday in Reading, but allowed five runs and all five were scored with two outs. He'll face the Squirrels for the second time this season at home and his third time overall. For more on Pimentel, see page two.

FOR RICHMOND: LHP Jack Snodgrass gets on the bump for Richmond in the second game of the four-game series. Snodgrass, who came off the DL to start last week vs. the Curve on May 19. Snodgrass tossed four innings on Sun- day and allowed just two hits without allowing a run. The lefty had been on the disabled list for roughly two weeks suffering from a tweaked hamstring that he suffered going to cover the bag at first on May 6. Snodgrass, along with Squirrels RHP Daryl Maday, combined on the first no-hitter in Squirrels history earlier this season back on April 5 vs. New Britain. The Bowling Green, Ky. native threw six innings of the seven-inning no-no.

HOLY HORSESHOES BATMAN: Altoona's offense erupted on Friday night in its thumping of the Squirrels. The 14 runs and 18 hits both tied season bests that were accomplished in Akron on April 9. The six hits in the sixth inning also tied a season-best mark for hits in an inning for the 2013 season. Also making the list of highlights from the day was the 10-run margin of victory, which was the highest of the season. Jarek Cunningham tied his career-high with his four-hit performance on Friday while Carlos Paulino's four-RBI were a career high and the first four-RBI game for a Curve player this season. Every player in the starting lineup, including starter Jameson Taillon, had a hit while eight of the nine starters scored at least one run.

SUSPENSION BRIDGE: The Curve and Fightins were suspended with the game tied at two on Thursday. Per the rule book, the game must be finished before any other game between the two clubs begins. Therefore, the two teams will resume the suspended game on Tuesday, June 4 at Peoples Natural Gas Field. They'll pick up the game at 6 p.m. with the regularly-scheduled nine-inning game to follow 30 minutes after its completion. When the game is re- sumed, the Curve must still retain its status as the visiting team even though it will be played in their home ballpark.

TAKING AWAY THE RUNNING GAME: Catcher Carlos Paulino has been a force to be reckoned with behind the plate this season, throwing out 38.6 percent (17-of-44) of base stealers entering play today. That's fourth-best in the circuit behind Portland's Christian Vazquez, who has thrown out 47.8 percent of base stealers, Akron's Roberto Perez (42.9%) and Trenton's J.R. Murphy (42.5%).

A HECKUVA SALES PITCH: The Curve pitching staff once again leads the Eastern League in team ERA entering play today with its 3.84 ERA. Despite going 1-5 on the road trip, the pitching staff had an ERA of 3.20 through the first six games. Casey Sadler has the sixth-best ERA in the league at 2.81 while teammate Jameson Taillon checks in seventh with his 2.91 ERA.

Taillon's 63 strikeouts lead the league while Sadler has 64.0 innings logged this season to pace the circuit.

HE EATS HIS WHEATIES: OF/1B Andrew Lambo tripled and drove in three runs on Friday to continued his impres- sive streak of reaching base in all but three games to start the season (44-of-47). Lambo leads the team in home runs, RBI, hits and is tied for the team lead in walks. His nine home runs are tied for third-most in the EL entering play today while his 32 RBI sit just outside the top-5 in the league (two players are tied for fifth with 33).

DON'T FORGET YOUR TOOTHBRUSH: The Curve are now eight games into one of the tougher stretches on their 2013 schedule. Altoona is in a period of the season where they are playing 13-of-17 games away from home without the benefit of a day off. Done with the first seven games on the road, the Curve are in the midst of a four-game homestand versus the Fly- ing Squirrels over Memorial Day weekend. The Curve then get back on the bus and head out through Binghamton and Portland for a six-game roadie beginning Tuesday.

#THATPOWER: Altoona hit a season-high four home runs in the loss on Wednesday night in Reading to run their season total as a team to 35. Andrew Lambo and Charlie Cutler went back-to-back in the fourth inning to become the first duo to go back-to-back this season for the Curve. The last time a pair of Curve batters went back-to-back? July 23, 2012 in Reading when Adalberto Santos and Matt Curry dialed long distance in succession. The three home runs in the fourth inning also was the first time the Curve hit more than one home run as a team in the same inning this season.
