Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs (41-29) shut out the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (35-34) with a 2-0 win on Thursday night. The Sea Dogs begin the second half of the regular season now just 0.5 games back from first place in the Northeast Division after today's win.
Isaac Coffey fired 6.0 scoreless innings in his second Double-A start allowing just three hits while walking two and striking out four. With his six scoreless, Coffey's ERA improved to 4.50 on the season. Nathan Hickey launched his seventh homer of the season.
Corey Rosier put the Sea Dogs on the board first in the top of the second after an RBI single brought Niko Kavadas in to score.
Nathan Hickey continued the scoring in the top of the sixth with a solo home run deep to right center field. With his seventh homer with Portland, the Sea Dogs continued to lead 2-0.
Joely Rodriguez pitched a scoreless seventh inning on a Major League Rehab assignment. He allowed just one hit and one walk in his inning of relief.
Portland starter RHP Isaac Coffey (1-0, 4.50 ERA) earned the win after pitching 6.0 scoreless innings allowing just three hits while walking two and striking out four. A pair of holds were issued to LHP Joely Rodriguez (2) and RHP Taylor Broadway (1). The save was awarded to RHP Luis Guererro (13) after pitching a perfect ninth inning. He did not issue a walk. The loss went to New Hampshire starter RHP Chad Dallas (3-1, 2.87 ERA) after pitching 4.2 innings allowing one run on one hit while walking two and striking out six.
The Sea Dogs return to Delta Dental Stadium tomorrow, June 30, 2023 for a double header against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. First pitch for game one is slated for 5:05pm. Portland will start RHP Grant Gambrell (1-2, 4.10 ERA) for game one while New Hampshire will send LHP Jimmy Robbins (3-5, 5.25 ERA) to the mound. The Fisher Cats will start RHP Adam Kloffenstein (4-3, 2.91 ERA) for game two while the Portland arm has yet to be determined.
