
Reading Drops Second Straight to Richmond

(Reading, PA) - The Richmond Flying Squirrels secured their second-straight victory over the Reading Fightin Phils 14-5 Thursday night.
A seven-run seventh inning elevated the Flying Squirrels to their second win of the series, tallying thirteen hits.
Richmond put up a four spot in the top of the third inning, taking advantage of a one-out wild pitch after Wade Meckler singled to center field. MLB Pipeline's No. 17 overall prospect Marco Luciano doubled to score Meckler, Shane Matheny doubled to score Luciano and Andy Thomas hit a two-run homer.
The R-Phils split their deficit in half in the bottom frame. Oliver Dunn led the inning off with a single and Cody Roberts hit his third home run of the season to right-center field to cut Richmond's lead to two runs.
R-Phils starter Mick Abel lasted five innings, allowing four earned runs and four hits, walking three and striking out six batters.
Matt Seelinger relieved Abel in the sixth inning, giving up three earned runs and two home runs.
Logan Wyatt added to the Flying Squirrel's lead in the top of the sixth with a solo home run to right field, giving Richmond a 5-2 lead.
Reading tied things up in the bottom of the sixth inning, thanks to a two-out rally started by Baron Radcliffe, who walked. Jhailyn Ortiz followed the two-out walk with an infield single and Ethan Wilson hit a triple, eventually scoring on the play when Luciano threw the ball out of play and into Richmond's dugout.
Keylan Killgore pitched two-thirds of an inning for Reading to replace Seelinger, allowing five runs. Only one run was earned.
The Flying Squirrels quickly regained their lead in the top of the seventh inning, putting up seven runs in the frame. The breakthrough inning was highlighted by Logan Wyatt and Meckler two-run doubles.
Adam Leverett pitched the eighth inning for the R-Phils. Leverett lasted one and a third innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out one.
Richmond led Reading 13-5 after scoring one run in the top of the eighth inning. Luciano hit a leadoff single, which was followed by a Thomas walk and Carter Williams hit by pitch. Wyatt grounded out to first base, scoring Luciano.
R-Phils reliever Carlos Francisco made his double-A debut in the ninth inning. Francisco gave up one run on three hits and struck out two batters.
The Flying Squirrel's bats stayed hot in the ninth inning, notching one run on three hits. Hayden Cantrelle and Meckler each singled and Brown roped a double to left field to score Cantrelle.
Matt Frisbee earned the win for Richmond to improve to 6-0 on the season and Seelinger suffered the loss for Reading to fall to 1-1 on the year. With the win, Richmond improves to 2-0 in the second half and Reading falls to 0-2 in the new half with the loss.

Sunday is another Berks Packing Sunday Family Fun Day, featuring the Reading Hot Dogs and an R-Phils Card Set giveaway and autograph signing for children in attendance. Finally, Monday is a Stars and Stripes Celebration and the night will conclude with postgame MEGA Blast Fireworks, the largest show in stadium history.
