Altoona Curve News Release
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Jacob Gonzalez and Abrahan Gutierrez each hit home runs for Altoona on Thursday night, but Harrisburg scored three runs across its final two at bats to defeat the Curve, 6-5, at FNB Field.
Gutierrez knocked his third home run with Altoona in the first inning, a two-run shot off Senators starter Dustin Saenz to score Matt Gorski and put Altoona on the board first for the second day in-a-row. The Curve would add two more runs off Saenz in the third inning, when Mason Martin and Gonzalez hit back-to-back RBI-singles to give Altoona a 4-0 lead.
The Senators tacked on two runs off Curve starter Sean Sullivan in the bottom of the third inning. Sullivan would allow five runs in total over 6.0 innings, including a solo home run to Trey Lipscomb in the third. Sullivan pitched into the seventh inning without recording an out and leaving two inherited baserunners for Noe Toribio, but both runners would score in the frame on Sullivan's line to tie the game. Sullivan walked three batters and struck out four.
The sixth home run of the season for Gonzalez came in the sixth inning to make it a 5-3 game, but after the two runs scored by Harrisburg to tie the game in the seventh, James Wood hit a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the eighth off Toribio to complete the comeback.
Gonzalez and Martin each had two hits in the loss. It is the second consecutive game where Altoona fell after holding an early lead as the Curve fell to 0-2 in the second half of the season.
Altoona continues a six-game road trip with the Harrisburg Senators, Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Altoona will send LHP Nick Dombkowski to the mound to face LHP Mitchell Parker for the Senators.
