
Scrappers Power Past Crosscutters for Series Win

Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
(Niles, OH) - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers hot start continued on Tuesday night. After falling behind in the second inning, the Scrappers would score four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take control of the game on their way to an 8-2 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters. The win marked the fourth straight series win for the Scrappers to start the 2018 season.
After the Crosscutters scored two runs in the top of the second inning, the Scrappers would cut in to the deficit in the bottom of the fourth. Tyler Freeman singled with one out and advanced to third on a double by Richie Palacios. A Mitch Reeves RBI groundout would bring in Freeman to cut the score to 2-1.
The Scrappers would break the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning when they sent all nine batters to the plate. Simeon Lucas' two run homerun would put the Scrappers in the lead for good. Freeman and Reeves both added RBI hits for a 5-2 lead.
A Palacio's RBI single and a Reeves two run homer in the bottom of the seventh would add three more insurance runs and pushed the score out to the final of 8-2.
With the win the Scrappers match the 2011 team with seven wins at home in the month of June, matching the franchise mark.
Juan Mota (1-1) started and earned the win in 6.0 innings of work. He allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits. Mota walked 1 and struck out 4. Dakody Clemmer followed with 2.0 innings of scoreless relief. Clemmer did not allow a baserunner and struck out 1. Erik Algarin finished the game with a scoreless inning of work. Algarin allowed 2 hits and struck out 2.
The Scrappers (9-2) now head to West Virginia to start a six game road trip. Luis Oviedo gets the start on Thursday. First pitch is at 7:05. The Scrappers return home to host the Batavia Muckdogs on the Fourth of July.
