
Scrappers Drop a Pitcher's Duel in Jamestown

NILES, Ohio- The heartbreak that ended the month of June for the Scrappers carried over into July on Monday night as the Scrappers fell in Jamestown on a walk off sacrifice fly. A game that was the true definition of a pitcher's duel ended with Jamestown on top 1-0.
Things looked promising for the Scrappers right from the start. With 2 outs in the top of the 1st inning Juan Herrera was hit by a pitch for the Scrappers first runner. Nellie Rodriguez followed with a single and then James Roberts was also hit by a pitch to load the bases. Mahoning Valley though was unable to get a runner home. On the game the Scrappers were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and ended up leaving 9 runners on base.
Kenny Matthews made his professional debut on the mound for the Scrappers. He worked 2 innings of 1 hit baseball. He didn't walk anybody and struck out 2. Cole Sulser followed Matthews and he allowed 3 hits over 3 innings. He as well did not walk anyone and struck out 2. Alexis Paredes relieved Sulser and worked 2 scoreless innings. Paredes allowed 1 hit and struck out 2 while issue 1 intentional walk. Trevor Frank (0-1) came on for 1.2 innings. He allowed 2 hits and a run. He did not walk a batter and struck out 2.
The Jammers would walk off with the win in the 9th inning. With 1 out, Jin-De Jhang lifted a fly ball to shallow rightfield that fell in for a single. Dan Collins followed with a double to leftfield to move Jhang to third. Edwin Espinal sent everyone home with a sac fly to rightfield to plate Jhang with the winning run.
