GENEVA, Illinois - Righty Tayler Scott outdueled Joe Cuda in the Kane County Cougars' 4-0 shutout of the Peoria Chiefs on Wednesday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in front of 7,972 to get back to .500.

Tayler Scott (2-1) started for the Kane County Cougars (18-18) and allowed just two hits over 7.1 innings against the Peoria Chiefs (18-18) while walking two batters and striking out a pair. Scott retired the first eight Chiefs to begin the game. In the third inning, Scott allowed a two-out single and walk before retiring next eleven Chiefs in a row.

Scott was knocked out of the game with one out in the eighth inning when Charlie Tilson smoked a double into right field. Nathan Dorris (3) relieved Scott after that and completed the Cougars' second shutout of the season recording the final five outs for his team-leading third save.

Joe Cuda (2-2) started for the Chiefs and was nearly as good as Scott. In the first inning, Pin-Chieh Chen led off with an infield single. Bijan Rademacher then hit a groundball that Chiefs' shortstop Alex Mejia knocked down with a dive. Throwing from his knees on the play, Mejia tossed the ball into right field allowing Chen to score and Rademacher to reach third.

Cuda then retired the next nine hitters as part of a 6.1 inning performance while striking out a career-high nine. The Cougars knocked Cuda out of the game in the seventh. After Rock Shoulders singled, Willson Contreras delivered an RBI triple to give Kane County a 2-0. Joe Scanio relieved Cuda and immediately surrendered an RBI single to Marco Hernandez. Contreras would add his second RBI of the day with a single to score Rademacher in the bottom of the eighth.

The Cougars will wrap up their four-game series against the Chiefs at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark with a split day-night doubleheader on Wednesday. Game one will start at 11:30 a.m. The Cougars have not announced a starter to face the Chiefs Kurt Heyer (2-1). Game two will begin at 6:30 with lefty Michael Heesch (2-2) on the mound for the Cougars squaring off against Silfredo Garcia (0-0).
