Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings won in dramatic fashion once again, this time with a walk-off victory in the tenth inning over the Beloit Snappers. An RBI double from Patrick Kivlehan lifted the LumberKings to their second walk-off win against Beloit in the series.
The LumberKings opened the scoring in the first two innings to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Clinton put up a four-run second inning on the strength of five consecutive hits off Beloit starter Raul Alcantara.
Beloit chipped away at the lead with a few runs off LumberKings' starter Dylan Unsworth. The right-hander put up seven strong innings, but he surrendered two runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth. Chad Lewis blasted a two-run home run in the fifth, the first home run allowed by Unsworth this season.
The Snappers extended the game with one more run in the eighth inning, and then finally tied the game in the top of the ninth. Two doubles in the ninth inning from John Wooten and Chris Bostick forced extra innings as David Holman could not close out the win.
Oliver Garcia put down the Snappers in order in the tenth to set the stage for another walk-off victory in extras. Guillermo Pimentel sliced a one-out double down the left field line to put the winning run in scoring position. Kivlehan then belted a fastball off the left-center wall for the game-winning hit, an RBI double for the final score, 6-5.
Dario Pizzano went 3-for-5 with another double, his team-high 11th of the season. Tim Lopes added a three-hit game, and Brock Hebert went 2-for-4 with a two-run double.
Oliver Garcia picked up the win to improve to 3-1 on the year. Chris Lamb took the loss for Beloit, falling to 1-1. Unsworth took a no-decision despite another quality start. He worked seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. Once again, Unsworth did not issue a walk and he struck out a season-high seven batters.
The LumberKings and Snappers will play the series finale of their four -game set on Thursday evening. The LumberKings send right-hander Matt Anderson (1-3, 6.44) to the mound against Beloit right-hander Michael Ynoa (0-0, 1.23). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CT.
