Schultz, Sweeney Slug Otters to Series Opening Win

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville Otters (21-13) received two home runs from outfielder Chris Sweeney and outfielder John Schultz reached base five times in the team's 10-4 series opening win over the Frontier Greys (15-17) on Tuesday night.

The Otters trailed 2-0 after the Greys tallied a pair of runs in the third inning.

Down by two, Evansville evened up the score in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run home run from Sweeney.

Tied 2-2, the Otters leapt ahead in the fourth inning. Schultz hit a two-run home run to right field and Sweeney made it back to back home runs with a blast to left field. Sweeney's home run was his 27th with the team and tied Nick Schwaner for third most in franchise history.

Up by three, Evansville extended the 5-2 lead in the next inning. First baseman Nik Balog brought home two more runs with a single up the middle for a five run advantage.

After the Greys posted a run in the top of the seventh, the Otters answered back with three runs in the bottom half including an RBI triple from Schultz.

Leading 10-3, Otters right-hander Preston Olson was able to maintain the lead for the victory. Olson (5-1) yielded just four runs in 8.0 innings pitched. The loss goes to Greys left-hander Eric Kline (0-2) who gave up eight walks and five runs in 3.2 innings.

Sweeney finished the game 3-for-5 with his second multi-home run game of the season, two runs and three runs batted in. Schultz was 3-for-3 in the win with three runs and three RBIs. Infielder Josh Allen also tallied two hits, three runs scored and an RBI as well.
