Lake Erie Crushers News Release
AVON, Ohio -- The Lake Erie Crushers scored 11 times on 15 hits on Tuesday evening, as they opened a six-game home stand with an 11-1 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies at All Pro Freight Stadium.
The Crushers (12-19) scored more runs, and recorded more hits on Tuesday night, than they did in their previous three games combined, and the loss for the Grizzlies (12-22) dropped their record to 3-12 on the road.
Five Crushers hit safely multiple times on the night, and Emmanuel Quiles led the way in the nine hole, with a 4-for-5 performance.
The Crushers took got on the board first, scoring three times with two outs in the bottom of the second. Austin Prott walked, and made his way to second on Quiles's two out single to center, before Trevor Stevens snapped a scoreless tie with a double down the line in right to score Prott. A wild pitch plated Quiles moments later, and Kevin Zak singled Stevens home to complete the inning.
Gateway got out of a few jams early in the game, as the Crushers had stranded nine base runners over the first six innings. The Grizzlies scored their lone run on a balk in the top of the sixth inning to narrow the deficit to two (3-1).
Lake Erie then posted back-to-back four run innings in the seventh and eighth to pull away. Quiles delivered a clutch, three run double down the line in right with two outs in the seventh, and scored on Stevens's second RBI double of the game.
In the eighth, the Crushers plated four more runs on three hits. Juan Sanchez's single to left center plated the first two runs, and Stevens struck again with a two run single to left field to bring in the final runs of the game.
Lost in the offensive breakout, was a great performance by Lake Erie starting pitcher Zach Morton (1-0) who tossed five scoreless innings, and allowed four hits while fanning five in his first win of the season. Tyler Thompson (1-4) took the loss after allowing three runs on 10 hits over five innings.
While Quiles led the way with his four hit performance, Stevens drove in four runs for the Crushers in the leadoff spot, going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles. Zak went 3-for-6 in the two hole, while Anderson Hidalgo and Sanchez both hit safely twice as well.
The Crushers will continue their three-game series with the Gateway Grizzlies at All Pro Freight Stadium on Wednesday night.
