Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League, announced that Rush forward Jesse Schultz has been named Oakley CHL Player of the Week for the term ending December 11th. The award marks the first league honor for the Rush this year and first for Schultz who joined the team in March of last season.
For the week, Schultz paced the Rush with seven points on three goals and four assists and a plus-6 rating. Through 20 games this season, the 9th-year pro leads the league with 32 points, the latest that a Rush player has ever held that position.
"Obviously, receiving this award is a very nice honor," said Schultz. "I was fortunate enough to be able to pick up some points due to our strong offensive production this past weekend. This is an individual award, but clearly something like this wouldn't be possible without the great play of my teammates. I am thankful for the recognition, but the main goal is to continue to pick up victories and stay focused on our run towards the playoffs."
The Strasbourg, Saskatchewan native began the weekend with a three point outing on Friday, which included scoring the game-winning goal in a 4-2 triumph. The following night, the veteran winger racked up two goals and two assists in a 7-0 pounding of the Sundogs to complete the sweep. His four point effort on Saturday tied a Rush season high for points in a single game.
"Jesse has been outstanding from day one, not only offensively, but as a complete player at both ends of the ice," said Rush Head Coach Joe Ferras. "He is a player that can be dominant and make those around him that much better with his hockey IQ and ability to make great plays. With Schultz's experience and leadership, he is a player that is highly respected in our locker room. He plays a big part in the success of this hockey club and will be counted on heavily in the final two-thirds of the season."
The Rush are currently on a road trip to south Texas where the team will play four games in five nights before returning home.
The next home games for the Rush are on December 21st and 22nd against the Arizona Sundogs. Tickets are available by calling 716-PUCK (7825) or online at www.gotmine.com.
