LAKEWOOD, NJ - Spencer Howard threw six scoreless innings and the BlueClaws got home runs from Jake Scheiner and Gregori Rivero in topping Charleston 2-1 on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Park.

The win was Lakewood's third straight, matching their longest winning streak of the season, as they improved to 18-15 on the season. The BlueClaws have held the RiverDogs (16-17) to just one run over the first two games of the series.

The BlueClaws got solo home runs in the third inning from Jake Scheiner and in the fourth from Gregori Rivero to open up a 2-0 lead.

Schiener's home run, his team-leading fourth of the year, extended his hitting streak to nine games. Rivero's home run was his second of the year.

That was more than enough for Howard, who improved to 3-2 on the season. The right-hander out of Cal-Poly has now thrown six scoreless innings in two of his last three starts.

Charleston starter JP Sears (0-2) allowed two runs on five hits in 5.2 innings, striking out five, but took the loss.

The RiverDogs scored a run on a Dalton Blaser SAC fly in the seventh off Julian Garicia. But Jonathan Hennigan escaped a jam in the eighth and Kyle Dohy threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn his fourth save of the season.

The BlueClaws improved to 10-6 in one-run games this season.

Rivero had two hits in the win for the BlueClaws.

The teams finish their series on Friday night at 7:05 pm. LHP Damon Jones (1-1) starts for the BlueClaws opposite Charleston RHP Garrett Whitlock (2-1).
