
Lexington Legends Drop Game Two to Delmarva Shorebirds

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - After a victorious game one, the Lexington Legends fell in game two against the Delmarva Shorebirds, 9-5. Lexington's record now drops to 15-16 and Delmarva improves to 22-11.
Matthias Dietz was awarded the victory for the Shorebirds, pitching 5.0 innings allowing one run on four hits while walking two and striking out eight. Janser Lara was given the loss, throwing 3.0 innings allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits while walking three. Andres Sotillet pitched in relief for the Legends, tossing 6.0 innings allowing three runs on 11 hits while striking out two.
The Shorebirds plated three runs in the first inning. Max Hogan doubled to centerfield then advanced to third on an error by Lexington's first baseman, Nick Pratto. T.J. Nichting singled home Hogan while advancing McCoy to second, and the Shorebirds were on the board, 1-0. With runners at first and second, Seamus Curran walked to load the bases. Trevor Craport then grounded into a double play, scoring Nichting to put the Shorebirds up 2-0. The final run of the inning was scored on an RBI single Zach Jarrett.
In the bottom of the first, Jeison Guzman smacked his first homerun in Class A baseball, a solo home run to right centerfield to put the Legends on the board, 3-1.
Delmarva plated three more runs in the third inning. Curran reached on a leadoff walk then advanced to second on a single to left centerfield by Craport. Ben Breazeale hit a groundball that was then bobbled, scoring Curran. With two runners on, Branden Becker lined a two-run single up the middle and the Shorebirds led 6-1.
In the top of the fifth, Jarrett singled down the left field line for the Shorebirds to lead off the inning. Becker singled home Jarrett and the Shorebirds led 7-1.
In the top of the seventh, Ryan Ripken roped a one-out double down the left field line, then was joined on the base path by Breazeale. Becker hit an RBI single to score Ripken, extending the lead to 8-1.
The Shorebirds plated their final run of the game in the top of the ninth courtesy of a solo home run by Breazeale, his first of the season.
Seuly Matias smacked two, two-run home runs with one coming in the sixth and the second coming in the eighth. Matias went two-for-four with two home runs with 4 RBI and now has 10 home runs this season.
The series finale between the Legends and the Shorebirds will be tomorrow night, May 11 at 7:05 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Lexington will send RHP Nolan Watson (2-2, 6.33 ERA) to face Delmarva's RHP Brenan Hanifec (3-1, 2.45 ERA).
