North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won 15-1 against the Rome Braves on Thursday night.
The GreenJackets were in control of the game with a 5-1 lead before the seventh inning. Jason Bahr dominated on the mound going six innings, only giving up six hits and striking out 11. At the plate, Manuel Gerlado tripled with the bases loaded and scored three runs to give the GreenJackets a commanding lead.
Then in the seventh inning, the GreenJackets ended the Braves. With the bases loaded, Jacob Gonzalez hit a grand slam that extended the lead to nine runs. After two walks, Ryan Kirby hit a three-run home run to deep center field. Then to finish off the inning, Heliot Ramos hit a two-run home run that gave the GreenJackets a 15-1 lead. The 10-run seventh was the most runs scored in an inning by Augusta this season.
With the win, the GreenJackets take back solo first in the Southern Division of the South Atlantic League. They will be back in action tomorrow at 7:05 pm for the final game of the series with the Rome Braves.
At the ballpark tomorrow, we will have Dr. Rogers and Andrews Orthodontics patients celebration night at SRP Park. The game will also be Ladies Night, followed by kids running the bases presented by Moe's Southwest Grill at the conclusion of the game.
The fun doesn't stop there as the GreenJackets welcome the Greensboro Grasshoppers to town for a four game series. On May 12th, the GreenJackets will have Pink in the Park, State Farm Family Saturdays, Saturday concert series performance #3, postgame fireworks, and kids-run-the-bases presented by Moe's Southwest Grill. On the 13th, we will celebrate Mother's Day, as we give away Picture Frames to the first 1,500 guests presented by Augusta University. We will also have pre-game catch on the field and kids-run-the-bases presented by Moe's Southwest Grill. On the 14th, we will have Military Monday and reading program night #5. On the 15th, there will be Comfort Keepers Baseball Bingo and Education Day #2. Gates will open at 9 am!
