Savage, Brahmas Hand Mudbugs Shutout Loss

Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Rookie goaltender Wayne Savage stopped all 34 Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs shots to lead the Texas Brahmas to a 4-0 win Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center. Despite outshooting Texas 27-9 in the last two periods, the ¬ËBugs never found the back of Savage's net and were shut out at home for the first time since November 2, 2007.
Bossier-Shreveport finished 0 for 6 on the powerplay as the Brahmas became the first team to blank the Mudbugs since Mississippi did it on New Year's Eve in 2008. The ¬ËBugs are now 18-7-0 on the season and remain one point ahead of Allen, who was idle of Saturday night, for first place in the CHL standings.
Both teams missed on two powerplay opportunities in the first period and the game remained scoreless after one. The ¬ËBugs held the Brahmas to only five shots in the second frame, but Texas scored on three of them to take a 3-0 edge into the third.
Greg Hogeboom opened the scoring during a 2-on-1 break with Jason Deitsch early in the period to put the visitors on top. Matt Pierce then buried a rebound at 10:51 and Chad Woollard ripped a perfect shot into the top corner off a Mudbugs turnover five minutes later to put the Brahmas ahead 3-0 heading into the third.
The ¬ËBugs pelted Savage with 16 shots in the final period, but never beat the rookie goaltender as their season high five-game home winning streak came to an end. Tyler Allen capped off the Texas win on an empty net goal with 30 seconds left.
John DeCaro (7-2-0) watched his personal six-game winning streak end after a 16-save effort, while Wayne Savage (4-4-1) earned his first professional shutout with 34 stops. The Mudbugs outshot Texas 34-20 and killed off all three Brahma powerplays.
Next up for the ¬ËBugs is a back-to-back set against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees next Thursday and Friday at the CenturyTel Center. Thursday's 6:35 game will be "Great Outdoors Night" and Friday the ¬ËBugs welcome Billy the Exterminator and the entire Vex-Con crew from their hit A&E show to help with our Killer Bee problem on "Exterminator Night" at 7:05.
