Three-Goal Third Powers Rush to Weekend Sweep of IceMen
December 11, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rapid City Rush News Release
Evansville, IN - The Rapid City Rush completed a weekend sweep of the Evansville IceMen on Saturday night with a 4-2 victory at Swonder Ice Arena. Both Les Reaney and Derek LeBlanc posted two-goal efforts as the Rush now move into a tie for first place in the Turner Conference. The Rush have now won four of the last five games and collected points in five of the last six, moving to 12-8-4 overall.
Rapid City got off on the right foot with Derek LeBlanc lighting the lamp just 1:49 into the game. Gio Flamminio and Scott Wray set LeBlanc up on the left circle, and the third-year pro snapped a wrist shot over goaltender David Wilson's shoulder and in. The IceMen evened the score with a powerplay goal from Bo Cheesman at the 15:44 mark.
Evansville would take their first lead of the weekend on a second powerplay goal midway through the second period. Bo Cheesman and Nicklas Lindberg set up Jordan Little who fired a slapshot through a screen and under the blocker of Battochio for the 2-1 lead.
The Rush were powered to victory by a three-goal third period, beginning with the team's second shorthanded goal of the season. Josh Beaulieu sprung Les Reaney on a breakaway and the Ceylon, Saskatchewan native completed the play, snapping a shot through the five-hole of Wilson to even the score. Reaney then scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winner at the 11:20 mark on a play set up by Ryan Menei and Colt King. From the point, Menei found a wide open Reaney at the top of the crease for the easy finish, giving the Rush a 3-2 lead. Finally, Derek LeBlanc sealed the 4-2 win with an empty-net goal in the final minute.
Danny Battochio stopped 28 shots for his 11th win of the season while David Wilson was dealt the loss, making 31 saves on the night.
The Rush now head to Prescott Valley, AZ to take on the Arizona Sundogs in a trio of game next week.
