Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (8-12-3) fell in overtime to the Arizona Sundogs (10-10-3) by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night. The Bees received a pair of goals by Aaron Lewicki in the second period but an unassisted Mark Kolanos goal at 1:23 of the overtime ended the affair.

Arizona scored the first two goals of the game. Mark Kolanos netted his first at the 7:56 mark of the first period. In the second Luke Erickson would increase the lead to two with Jim Driscoll and Tyler Butler adding the assists.

The Killer Bees cut the lead to one when Aaron Lewicki scored his seventh goal of the season. Brett Wilson controlled the puck at the blue line and found an open Tomas Klempa. Klempa began driving towards the net and saw Lewicki in front. Lewicki took the puck, deked on Levente Szuper and raised the puck to the top of the net for the goal.

The Bees tied the game at 18:30 of the second period when Aaron Lewicki found twine for the second time that night. As the Bees were on the power-play Darcy Campbell passed the puck to the slot. Tomas Klempa has the first play but was unable to control the puck but Lewicki swooped in and fired the loose puck towards the net as he was falling to the ice.

Rio Grande Valley and Arizona would play a scoreless third period with each team creating opportunities but both netminders being up to the task.

In overtime the Sundogs would claim victory at the 1:23 mark when Mark KolanOs netted his second of the game, this one from the top of the circles as part of an odd man rush.

The Killer Bees will hit the road for an extended four-game road trip starting with Laredo on Dec. 14. The Bees will travel to Bossier-Shreveport for a pair of games before returning to Laredo for the final game of the four-game trip.
