Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, CA -The Santa Cruz Warriors (27-11) couldn't complete a comeback attempt against the Stockton Kings (22-15) tonight at Stockton Arena, falling 117-112 in regulation. The Warriors and Kings split the season series 2-2, with the Pacific Division tiebreaker now turning to team records against other division opponents.
Santa Cruz guard Darius Morris scored a team-high 20 points in 25 minutes off the bench tonight. Two-way guard Damion Lee logged 19 points tonight to move up to fifth place on the Warriors all-time scoring list with 1,014 points as a Sea Dub. Center Deyonta Davis added 14 points, 13 rebounds and a season-high five blocks tonight.
All five Kings starters scored in double figures, with guard Cody Demps tallying a game-high 26 points in a 43 minutes. Sacramento Kings forward Caleb Swanigan, who was assigned to Stockton this afternoon, logged 18 points, 18 rebounds and five assists off the bench tonight. Two-way forward Troy Williams tacked on 20 points and center Daniel Ochefu returned to action to add 19 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Four Kings scored in double figures in the first half to give Stockton a 58-56 lead; Williams (16 points), Ochefu (13), Demps (12) and forward Taren Sullivan (10). Stockton's offense clicked early in the second quarter with a 16-4 run to erase a nine-point Santa Cruz lead.
A seesaw second half began with an 18-4 Warriors run to take the lead, only for Jones and Swanigan to combine for 15 points on a 16-2 Kings run between the third and fourth quarters to take their largest lead of the game, 100-84. A 16-2 Warriors run brought the team's deficit to within one point with just over a minute remaining, but buckets by Williams and Demps in the closing seconds put the game out of reach for the Sea Dubs.
This Sunday, February 24 the Santa Cruz Warriors will host the Oklahoma City Blue (25-12) at Oracle Arena (tip-off 5:00 p.m. PST) in a matchup of the two best records in the NBA G League. The first 10,000 fans in attendance that afternoon will receive a limited-edition Klay Thompson Santa Cruz Edition Bobblehead.
