FRISCO, Tex. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Texas Legends 114-106 Friday evening, continuing their perfect all-time edge on the Legends to 5-0. The Warriors improved to 2-1 on the early season and 1-0 on their current three-game road trip.
Aaron Craft recorded a triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, becoming the second player to score a triple-double in Santa Cruz history behind guard Darington Hobson. Two Warriors nabbed double-doubles with Joe Alexander scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Carrick Felix scored 17 points and 12 rebounds. Elliot Williams led all scorers with 30 points.
Texas was paced by Doron Lamb, who scored 23 points and had a team-high 8 assists. In total, six different Texas players contributed in double figures, with Renaldo Balkman recording a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
The Warriors started out the first quarter strong with a three-pointer from Aaron Craft to put Santa Cruz up 17-11 with 7:37 remaining. The Legends came back to match the Warriors at 27-all at the end of the first quarter with a step-back three from Ricky Ledo. The teams would continue a tightly-contested first half as Santa Cruz took just a two-point lead heading into halftime.
The third quarter saw Santa Cruz open up their lead, outscoring the Legends 34-17. Santa Cruz would never relinquish the lead in the second half, owning as much as a 19-point advantage over Texas at the start of the fourth quarter.
Santa Cruz kept the edge on field goal percentage (41-32%) three-point field goals made (12-10), rebounds made (53-50), assists made (24-21), and blocked shots (6-4).
The Santa Cruz Warriors travel to Austin, Texas for Sunday's game against the Austin Spurs, which tips off at 1:00 p.m. Pacific. The team will play the final game of their three-game road trip against the Bakersfield Jam on Tuesday before returning home to Kaiser Permanente Arena on Friday to face the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
