Westchester Knicks News Release
WHITE PLAINS - The Westchester Knicks (1-2) defeated the Grand Rapids Drive (0-3) tonight to clinch the first regular season win in franchise history. The victory is also the first-ever win for Head Coach Kevin Whitted.
The Westchester Knicks came out hot, leading the Drive 12-2 after less than 4 minutes on the clock. At the end of the first half, Westchester led 21-8 and never looked back, not once giving up the lead to Grand Rapids. The Knicks' biggest lead came in the fourth quarter with 22 points off a three-point jumper from Thanasis Antetokounmpo.
Coming off the bench at the end of the first quarter, Todd Mayo had an exceptional game, leading the team in scoring with 20 points in just 23 minutes. Thanasis Antetokounmpo continued to showcase his athleticism, securing 11 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, most impressively recording six blocks. Five Knicks recorded double digit scoring on the night, including Andre Barrett who scored 10 points in the first half, accumulating 13 points overall. Ben Strong added 12 points including a couple of impressive dunks, also contributing six rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Adonis Thomas led the Grand Rapids Drive with 20 points and five rebounds. Lorenzo Brown added 18 points, four rebounds, and four steals, but the lines were not enough to hold off the powering Westchester Knicks.
Tomorrow the Knicks will return to the Westchester County Center to take on the Delaware 87ers at 7:00 p.m. The two teams last met on Nov. 10 as the Knicks defeated the 87ers in Westchester's only preseason game.
