Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Idaho Stampede 122-100 on Friday night to improve to 26-13 on the season, notching a seventh straight win. Santa Cruz was led by Darington Hobson, who recorded his second consecutive triple-double, and the third of his career. He finished with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Mychel Thompson added 25 points, while Dominique Sutton notched 17 points and 6 rebounds in the victory.
The Stampede received a solid performance from Jack Cooley who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Idaho was without their leading scorer, forward Jerrelle Benimon, who signed a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz earlier today.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth of trading baskets between Santa Cruz and Idaho, complete with four lead changes and five ties. The Stampede led the Warriors by as many as 6 points in the first quarter but could not hold onto the lead as the Warriors tied it up with a Darington Hobson bucket before the buzzer.
The teams would keep the score tight during the second quarter, but the Warriors would stay on top with a three-point edge heading into the break.
The tightly-contested battle continued into the third period with Santa Cruz holding a four-point lead moving into the final frame.
The Warriors raced ahead with a 15-4 run just minutes into the fourth quarter's start. Santa Cruz coasted to 22-point win over the Stampede, going 5-0 against Idaho this season. The Santa Cruz Warriors will host the Idaho Stampede again tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. PST at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Fans can listen to the broadcast on the Santa Cruz Warriors flagship station, KION 1460AM/101.1FM, or catch the game on the NBA D-League's YouTube channel, via www.santacruzbasketball.com.
