McNeal Explodes for 40 Points in Jam Win

AUSTIN, TEXAS - Jerel McNeal powered the Bakersfield Jam (29-11) to a 116-94 road victory over the Austin Spurs (29-12), scoring 40 points on 16-of-23 shooting to go along with five steals.

McNeal scored 19 points (8/9 FGs) in the opening frame, helping the Jam jump out to a 34-16 lead after one quarter of play. In the second period, Bakersfield opened up a lead as big as 23 points and went into the half with a 57-37 advantage.

Austin won the third quarter 34-28, cutting the Jam's lead to 14 points (85-71) entering the final frame. Joe Jackson paced Bakersfield in the final frame as he scored 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting. The closest the Spurs got in the fourth was within 12 points at the 10:30 mark.

Overall, the Jam shot a season-high 60.3 percent from the field and held the edge in points in the paint (56-40), assists (20-17) and steals (12-7).

Jackson finished with 23 points (10/15 FGs) and a game-high seven assists, while Jamil Wilson added 14 points and five rebounds. Mac Koshwal had a game-high nine rebounds. Renaldo Major recorded two steals on the night, which now puts him on top as the NBA D-League's All-Time Leader in Steals (443 and counting).

The Spurs were led by Orlando Johnson (23 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals) and Erik Murphy (19 points, 6 rebounds). Jonathan Simmons had 17 points while San Antonio Spurs assignee Kyle Anderson finished with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Bakersfield concludes its three-game road trip with a 3-0 record and will next return home to take on the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Wednesday, March 11 at 7:00 PM PT.
