Canton Improves Playoff Positioning with Road Win

The Canton Charge (23-17), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (22-19), 97-94, on the road Saturday night. The victory solidifies Canton's current position as the first of two Wild Card teams in the Eastern Conference with a 1.5 game lead over the second position and 10 games left to play.

After the two teams went back and forth for four lead changes and three ties in the fourth, Canton led 92-91 with 2:55 to play in the game. The Charge defense then locked down to force six consecutive stops to keep the Mad Ants at bay during a scoreless stretch for both teams. Brandon Paul hoisted a 27-foot triple late in the shot clock that fell through with 12.7 seconds left to put the game away and give Canton their first win in Fort Wayne since December 18th of 2012.

Paul finished with 16 points, 11 in the fourth quarter, seven rebounds, two steals and a block in 22 minutes. Arinze Onuaku added to his D-League leading double-double total by netting 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting with 17 boards and two steals in 40 minutes. Stephen Holt added 17 points in 36 minutes, while Jorge Gutierrez-Cardenas scored 11 points with four rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench.

C.J. Fair paced Fort Wayne with 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting and five rebounds in 29 minutes. Gary Talton scored 13 points and dished 10 assists in 39 minutes. Six Mad Ant players scored in double figures in the loss.
