MOOSIC, PA. - The New York Yankees have sent catcher Gary Sanchez to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to begin a rehabilitation assignment with the RailRiders. Sanchez will catch seven innings today with plans of having him remain with the club during the start of their upcoming seven-game road trip.

Sanchez was placed on the Yankees 10-Day Disabled List on June 25 with a grade one right groin strain.

Sanchez was signed as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2009. He first played for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre during the 2015 season, batting .295 with six home runs and 26 over 35 games before making his Major League debut on October 3. In 2016, Sanchez appeared in 71 games and hit .282 with ten home runs and 50 runs batted in for the RailRiders. He also played in 53 games for the Yankees that summer.

In 2017, Sanchez made the Yankees Opening Day roster, but was on the Disabled List from April 8 through May 4 and appeared in three games for the RailRiders during a rehab stint.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre concludes its homestand today against the Rochester Red Wings; the Minnesota Twins highest affiliate. Rochester will start right-hander Ervin Santana, who is with the club on a rehab assignment as well. The RailRiders start their road trip to Toledo and Columbus on Monday. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's next homestand begins on July 24 against the Charlotte Knights.

Tickets today's 1:05 p.m. game or for any game remaining during the 2018 season are available online now at swbrailriders.com or over the phone at (570) 969- BALL.
