Rochester Red Wings News Release
The Red Wings managed just four hits for a second consecutive day, falling to the Scranton/WB RailRiders, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in Moosic, PA.
After winning the first two games of the series, Rochester (43-46) has to settle for the series split.
Twins rehabbing pitcher Ervin Santana made the start for the Wings allowing three runs on four hits over 5.2 innings to suffer the loss. He walked just one, while striking out seven but surrendered two solo home runs.
The first solo home run came off the bat of fellow rehabber and Yankees star Gary Sanchez in the fourth inning that gave Scranton the 1-0 lead.
The Wings tied the game at one without a hit in the fifth. Jon Kemmer reached on a one out walk before moving all the way to third when a wild pitch skipped off the umpire and up the first base line. Edgar Corcino followed with a sacrifice fly to knot the game.
The RailRiders pulled back ahead an inning later when Billy McKinney connected on the second solo homer of the day for Scranton. They would add an insurance run on an RBI double later in the inning.
Wings reliever DJ Baxendale gave the offense a chance to get back in the game by tossing 2.1 scoreless innings.
The Wings return to Frontier Field on Monday to open an eight-game, seven-day homestand against the Louisville Bats and Norfolk Tides. First pitch Monday is 7:05 pm.
