San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Gulls made several roster changes this week including a trade that sent center Miguel Delisle to the Idaho Steelheads in exchange for center Chris Gobert.

Gobert, 24, is in his first full professional season after playing three games with the AHL's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks in 2002-03. The 5-foot-9-inch, 170-pound center from Marquette, Michigan spent the previous four years playing for Northern Michigan University where he tallied 148 career points (62g, 86a). He led NMU with 32 assists and 47 points in 2002-2003 on his way to being named club MVP. Gobert was named to the CCHA All-Rookie team in 1999-00 and the CCHA All-Academic team in 2002-03. Delisle, 21, was sent to the Steelheads in exchange for Gobert. He was in his second year with the Gulls and had tallied seven points (2g, 5a) thus far this season.

The Gulls other new addition is 22-year-old Justin Hellegards. The 6-foot-1-inch native of Kamack, Saskatchewan is in his second professional season, and first with the Gulls. He played in all 60 regular season games for the ACHL's Jacksonville Barracudas in 2002-03, scoring 15 points (1g, 14a) and racking up 153 penalty minutes, good for third on the team. He spent the 2003 postseason with the UHL's Port Huron Beacons and had played in nine games with Jacksonville this season before signing with the Gulls.

In other news, the Gulls announced they have released center Stephane St. Amour and defenseman Taj Melson. St. Amour ranks as San Diego's seventh all-time leading scorer and is the younger brother of Associate Coach Martin St. Amour. Melson, 29, ranks as the Gulls 14th all-time leading scorer with 160 points. Additionally, defenseman Andy Reierson was recalled by the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks.

After dropping two out of three games last week, The Gulls six game homestand wraps up this weekend with two games against the Idaho Steelheads. The puck drops on Friday at 7:35 and Saturday's game gets underway at 7:05.
