MacDonald Becomes 229th Former ECHL Player In NHL

PRINCETON, N.J. – Former Toledo Storm right wing Jason MacDonald became the 299th former ECHL player to advance to the National Hockey League when he made his debut with the New York Rangers on Friday. MacDonald played 16 shifts and had two shots in the Rangers 3-1 win at Buffalo.

Selected in the sixth round (142nd overall) by Detroit in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, MacDonald began the season with Hartford of the American Hockey League scoring 16 points (9g-7a) in 24 games before being recalled on Thursday.

The 29-year-old MacDonald scored 10 points (5g-5a) in nine regular games and four points (1g-3a) in nine playoff games for Toledo in 1995-96. He also played for Adirondack of the AHL in 1995-96 scoring 22 points (9g-13a) in 43 regular season games.

The 6-0 and 205-pound MacDonald made his professional debut in 1993-94 appearing in one playoff game with Adirondack, and returned to Adirondack in 1994-95 scoring 35 points (14g-21a) in 68 regular season games and also appeared in four playoff games.

In addition to Adirondack and Hartford, MacDonald has appeared in the AHL with Fredericton, Saint-John and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton while also playing with the Canadian National Team and in the International Hockey League with Manitoba and Orlando.

MacDonald becomes the 14th ECHL player to make his NHL debut in 2003-04 joining Johnathan Aitken (Chicago on November 26), Darryl Bootland (Detroit on November 8), Travis Brigley (Colorado on October 26), Garrett Burnett (Anaheim on October 8), Andrew Hutchinson (Nashville on October 18), Boyd Kane (Philadelphia on October 16), Patrick Leahy (Boston on December 6), Pat Rissmiller (San Jose on November 13), Nathan Robinson (Detroit on November 28), Michael Ryder (Montreal on October 9), Dany Sabourin (Calgary on October 29), Rastislav Stana (Washington on November 14), and Mike Stuart (St. Louis on October 24).
