Generals win 6-3 over Titans

GREENSBORO—The Greensboro Generals avenged an earlier loss this season to the Trenton Titans in dramatic fashion, winning by a score of 6-3. In front of 2,718 on-hand, who tossed stuffed animals onto the ice that will be given to local children at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital the Generals will take to the road with a key victory.

Trenton (10-11-1) opened the game with a goal off the stick of Peter Fregoe, who sent a laser shot past net minder Jamie Hodson, following a rebound off the skate of Devin Rask. The Generals retaliated with a Geno Parrish goal, who sniped a shot to the left side, sending teddy bears from the crowd flying onto the ice in celebration at the 14:39 mark. Just under one minute remaining, Eric Fortier managed to light the lamp on a power-play, when on an assist by Hodson and Tom Reimann, Greensboro assumed the lead at 2-1.

Kurt Drummond started off second period scoring when he sent home his sixth goal of the season, receiving a feed from Mike Bayrack and Tom Reimann, just at the 0:31 mark. The Titans answered with a goal of their own, when left-winger Scott Bertoli, on an assist from newcomers Pete Summerfelt and Jay Leach, cut the Generals lead to 3-2. Just over three minutes later, Matt Elich gave Greensboro an insurance goal, sending his ninth goal of the 2003-04 campaign past Andrew Allen. The Elich goal sent each team to the locker room, with Greensboro leading 4-2.

The Generals would once again begin the period with a scoring flurry, this time coming on a power-play goal by Matt Turek. On an assist from teammates Kurt Drummond and Matt Elich, Turek gave Greensboro a 5-2 advantage, just 2:14 into the frame. The Titans would again attempt a comeback, after a Dan Riva goal late in the period, however Greensboro answered with some magic of its own. At the 18:32 mark, just eight seconds following the Riva goal, Generals Captain Mark Turner sent a shot just inside the blue line past Allen for the final goal, making the final score 6-3.

Netminder Jamie Hodson paced the way for Greensboro, stopping 45 of 48 shots on goal, as Tom Reimann added three assists for the Generals.

The Generals now travel to Columbus on Saturday, when they take on the Cottonmouths at 7:30 p.m. Greensboro will return home to take on the Columbia Inferno next Wednesday night at the Greensboro Coliseum, at 7:00 p.m.
