Peoria Rivermen News Release
PEORIA, Ill.- Justin Pogge made 43 saves as the San Antonio Rampage came from behind to defeat the Peoria Rivermen 2-1 on Saturday night at Carver Arena. A season-high 6,177 fans were on hand to see the Rivermen drop their fourth straight game.
Play was physical from the start with Francis Lessard and Tyson Strachan picked up 7 minutes each in penalties, as a wrestling match turned into a fight, just 1:04 into the opening frame. Lessard went after Strachan again at 10:43 sending him into the wall away from the play. Lessard was given a boarding major, a fighting major and a game misconduct. Mitch Love (fighting) and Strachan (roughing) also received penalties on the play.
Aaron Palushaj scored the only goal for Peoria at 16:12 of the first period to give the Rivermen a 1-0 lead. Yan Stastny and Danny Richmond help setup Palushaj behind the Rampage goal. His wraparound attempt was initially stopped by Pogge but his second effort forced the puck across the line for his fourth of the season.
Peoria finished the first period with 22 shots on goal, one shy of their season high, while they held San Antonio to just seven. The shots were even at 11-11 in the second period but the Rampage managed to tie the game.
Brett MacLean, who scored twice in Friday night's game, put the Rampage on the board at 14:26. Sean Zimmerman sent MacLean in on a breakaway against Ben Bishop, and as he was caught from behind and falling to the ice, he managed to flip the puck under the blocker for his 23rd of the season. Pogge also earned an assist on the play.
The Rivermen controlled the majority of the third period as well, as they outshot the Rampage 11-5. A turnover led to Stefan Meyer's goal at 9:34 to put San Antonio on top for good.
Bishop finished with 21 saves and suffered his third straight defeat. Both teams finished 0-for-3 on the power play.
