Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Binghamton Senators rallied from a 2-1 deficit and scored three straight unanswered goals in the third period to claim a 4-2 win over the Rochester Americans tonight at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. With the loss, the Amerks fall to 31-22-2-0 on the season and 16-5 against the American Hockey League's four other teams in New York State. The Sens improved to 22-24-3-2.

Rochester remains one win away from capturing its 2,000th win in the 54-year history of the franchise, a feat accomplished by only the founding members of the NHL's original six, in addition to the defending Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears.

Defenseman Clay Wilson led the Amerks with two points (1+1) while goaltender Tyler Plante recorded 30 saves in his second start in as many nights.

Binghamton was led offensively with two-point efforts from Jonathan Cheechoo, Josh Hennessy (0+2) and Zach Smith (0+2) as former Rochester netminder Mike Brodeur collected his ninth win of the season.

Wilson put the Amerks on the board first midway through the opening period on the power-play with his 10th tally of the season at the 12:38 mark. With the goal, the veteran blueliner extended his point streak to three games and has now notched points in four of his last five appearances. Forwards Jamie Johnson and Graham Mink each were credited with the assists to help Rochester take a 1-0 lead.

The two teams exchanged goals in the second stanza, with the hometown Senators striking first just 4:42 into the frame. Cheechoo, a seven-year NHL veteran who joined Binghamton Saturday afternoon on reassignment from Ottawa, netted his first goal as B-Sen in his Binghamton debut to level the game at 1-1. The contest was Cheechoo's first AHL contest since the 2002-03 season as a member of the now defunct Cleveland Barons. Hennessy and Craig Schira assisted on the play.

The Amerks regained the lead just 92 seconds later as Michal Repik responded with his 19th goal of the season at 6:14 to make it a 2-1 game. Repik also extended his point streak to four games with the power-play tally.

It was all Binghamton in the third, starting with Keegan Dansereau's equalizer at 7:55 before former Amerk Paul Baier netted his first goal of the season, and eventual game-winner, at 10:48 of the final frame to put the Sens on top 3-2. Smith picked up his pair of helpers on the back-to-back markers.

2010 AHL All-Star Ryan Keller secured the 4-2 win with his team-leading 24thgoal and 47 th point with an empty-netter at 18:53, shutting the door on any hopes of a late comeback attempt for the Amerks.

Rochester kicks off a season-long five-game homestand on Tuesday, February 16th with the first of back-to-back tilts with the Manitoba Moose at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:05 p.m. North Division showdown will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. The game will also be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet Channel 26.
