Chicago Wolves News Release

HOUSTON---The Chicago Wolves broke the game open with three straight goals in the second period and goaltender Drew MacIntyre stopped all 24 shots he faced to defeat the Houston Aeros, 3-0, at the Toyota Center, Sunday night.

MacIntyre (13-11-1) picked up his fifth-straight victory, backstopping Chicago (33-17-0-4) to its third win in as many days with his first shutout of the season. Forwards Matt Anderson, Oak Park native Patrick Galivan and Jason Krog dented the net for the Wolves, who now hold a three-point lead for first place in the West Division.

After a scoreless first period, Anderson put the Wolves on the board with a shorthanded marker at 13:05 of the second period. Defenseman Mike Vernace made a clearing pass up the middle to Anderson, who was waiting on the blueline. With open ice in front of him, Anderson faked out Houston netminder Barry Brust, pulled the puck to his backhand and deposited it behind Brust for the goal.

Eighty-three seconds later, Galivan netted his first career AHL marker. Right wing Spencer Machacek made a centering pass to center Kevin Doell, who took a shot that was blocked by Brust, but managed to trickle underneath him. Galivan picked up the loose puck from behind Brust and put the Wolves up 2-0.

With time winding down in the second period, Krog made the Wolves lead three with a power-play marker. Defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy took a shot from the point that rebounded out to Krog. Krog set up to pass the puck across the crease but Brust attempted to cover the pass and it slid into the net.

Brust (5-3-0) posted 23 saves for Houston (27-22-6-1), while Wade Dubielewicz, who replaced him with less than seven minutes to play, saw no shots in 2:05 of relief action.

The Wolves head back to the Allstate Arena when they take on the San Antonio Rampage this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
