Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON - G Drew MacIntyre saved all 24 shots faced as the Houston Aeros (27-22-6-1) were shutout 3-0 by the Chicago Wolves (33-17-0-4) Sunday night in front of 9,063 at Toyota Center. G Barry Brust made 23 saves to get saddled with the loss. Wolves forwards Matt Anderson, Patrick Galivan and Jason Krog each scored a goal.
For the second time in as many nights the Aeros and their opponent played to a scoreless opening frame. Houston killed the only two power plays of the period while getting outshot 14-3.
The Aeros failed to convert on a multitude of opportunities through the first half of the second period and at 13:05 it was Chicago that tallied the game's first goal. With the Aeros on the power play, Chicago forced a turnover at center ice. Wolves D Mike Vernace turned and found Anderson at the blue line where he took it in alone, deked Brust to the ice and sent a backhander into a wide open net. The goal is the seventh short handed marker given up by the Aeros this season.
The Wolves found the net for a second time just 1:23 later when C Kevin Doell sent a backdoor feed to the tape of Galivan for his first pro goal. The Wolves pushed the lead to 3-0 with 45 seconds left in the middle stanza. With Aeros D J.P. Testwuide in the box, Krog scored his 12th of the year off helpers from D Ivan Vishnevskiy and RW Tim Stapleton.
The two clubs played to a scoreless third period where the Aeros outshot Chicago 11-2. The Aeros finished the night 0-for-2 on the power play while Chicago tallied a short handed marker and went 1-for-5 on the man advantage. It's the fourth time the Aeros have been shutout this season.
The Aeros begin another 3-in-3 in Milaukee Friday night to take on the Admirals, 7:00 p.m. from the Bradley Center. Houston then travels to Chicago for a rematch with the Wolves before finishing the road trip in Peoria Sunday night.
