Springfield Falcons News Release

The Springfield Falcons used a 49-save effort from goaltender J.P. Levasseur and a balanced offensive attack to shut out the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-0 on Sunday afternoon in Bridgeport, CT. The Falcons had 11 different players record at least a point, including goals from Rob Hisey, Slava Trukhno, Colin McDonald and Charles Linglet. The Falcons will next host the Worcester Sharks on Tuesday night at the MassMutual Center starting at 7 pm.

"I thought we had a lot of guys contribute tonight and overall it was a very good effort and win for us," said Falcons head coach Rob Daum. "JP (Levasseur) was very good in goal and it was nice to get this win and bounce back like we did."

In the opening period, the two teams exchanged scoring chances before Hisey gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead with his seventh goal of the year at 14:24 of the opening frame. Late in the first period, Bridgeport had a pair of quality scoring chances, but Levasseur made back-to-back stops keeping the score in favor of the Falcons heading into the first intermission.

"I thought we were fine in the first period, but Bridgeport also had some chances, but JP was there for us," said Daum. "I think tonight was a nice confidence boost for JP and the team overall."

Springfield didn't waste much time in the second period to build on their lead when Trukhno redirected a Johan Motin slap shot past Nathan Lawson at 1:54 of the middle period giving the Falcons a two-goal cushion..

Bridgeport tried to swing the momentum late in the second period with some physical play, but the Falcons held their ground and battled right back. After Bridgeport's Trevor Gillies through a punch at Falcons defenseman Theo Peckham, Kip Brennan stepped right in and he and Gillies dropped the gloves with Brennan scoring the knockdown.

Protecting a 2-0 lead into the game's final 20 minutes, McDonald expanded Springfield's lead to 3-0 when he redirected a Dean Arsene slap shot from the left point. Center Ryan O'Marra started the play winning the faceoff in the offensive zone.

Linglet added his 14th marker of the year late in the third period capping off the scoring for Springfield and giving them a well-deserved 4-0 win. Levasseur fell five saves short of a Falcons record for most saves in a game. Both David LeNevue and Gerald Coleman hold the record witrh 54 saves each.
