Admirals Hearts Broken By Rampage

Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI--Mikael Boedker's goal with 2:42 left in the game broke the Milwaukee Admirals hearts on Valentine's Day, as the San Antonio forward broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Rampage a 2-1 win over the Ads in front of 12,248 fans at the Bradley Center.
The Admirals got a solid effort out of rookie goaltender Chet Pickard who stopped 31 of 33 chances but San Antonio's Justin Pogge was a bit better, holding the Admirals to one goal on 28 shots as San Antonio defeated Milwaukee for just the second time in eight tries this season.
Milwaukee got out in transition early in the second period to get on the board first. Mark Van Guilder stickhandled from the neutral zone to the right circle of the San Antonio zone where he dumped the puck off for Ryan Maki. Maki ripped a driving wrist shot past the stick of San Antonio's Justin Pogge for a 1-0 lead at 2:11 of the first period.
San Antonio tied it up when Matt Watkins and Brett MacLean broke free of the Admirals defense. Closing in on Pickard in the slot, Watkins flipped up a shot that was deflected upward by Pickard. The puck took an unfortunate path for the Ads as it caromed off of Milwaukee's Mark Matheson as he slid through the crease and into the net. Referee Ian Croft conferred with the linesman and the goal was upheld as the Rampage evened the game at 7:48 of the second.
The Admirals had a number of chances to take the lead in the third period, including a pair of power-plays, but they couldn't solve Pogge.
San Antonio got the game winner when Jeff Hoggan picked off the puck behind the Milwaukee net. Hoggan found Mikael Boedker to the left of the crease with a fine centering pass and he fired the shot past Pickard's stick for the game winning goal.
The loss was first time all season that the Admirals had lost in regulation when leading after the first period.
The Admirals are off the next four days before returning to the ice on Friday, February 19 at 7:00 pm at the Bradley Center versus the Houston Aeros.
