San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 7, 2017) - Defenseman Jordan Schmaltz's second-period goal lifted the San Antonio Rampage (1-0-0-0) to a 2-1 victory over the Ontario Reign (0-1-0-0) in the 2017-18 season opener.

In his Rampage debut, Samuel Blais opened the scoring for the Silver and Black 10:48 into the opening frame when he tipped in a centering pass from Rocco Grimaldi. The remainder of the period went scoreless as San Antonio took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

After killing Ontario's 5-on-3 power-play opportunity in the opening minutes of the second period, the Rampage registered their second goal of the evening at the 2:17 mark when Schmaltz finished a backdoor pass from Gabriel Bourque for a 2-0 lead. Ontario's Michael Mersch cut the lead to one at 13:23 when he landed an unassisted goal on Rampage netminder Spencer Martin.

San Antonio retained its 2-1 lead throughout the remainder of the contest, holding off an extra Ontario attacker for the final 88 seconds of regulation.
