Rockford IceHogs News Release
WEEK ONE REPORT BACON BITS:
The Rockford IceHogs shut out the Cleveland Monsters, 4-0, Saturday night for a season-opening victory...Rockford is now 8-9-1-1 in its 19 pervious season openers and 4-5-1-1 during the club's AHL era...The win also marked the Hogs' first shutout in a season opener since a 1-0 shootout loss at Chicago to open the 2012-13 season (Oct. 13).
-Head Coach Jeremy Colliton earned his first IceHogs and AHL win with Saturday's shutout...The 32 year old led Mora IK of the Swedish Hockey League to a league-best 35-4-3 record during the 2016-17 season, and recently piloted the 2017 Blackhawks prospects team to the Wuest Memorial Cup Champonship at the NHL Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, Mich.
-J.F. Berube made 32 saves and picked up an assist in Saturday's victory...Berube has now totaled seven career shutouts in the AHL, including one with Bridgeport in 2015-16 and five with Manchester from 2013-15.
-Three IceHogs skaters posted multi-point games against Cleveland...Tomas Jurco led all skaters with three points (1g, 2a) and both Matthew Higmore (1g, 1a) and Ville Pokka (1g, 1a) produced a two-point effort.
-Tomas Jurco scored a goal and added two assists in his IceHogs debut...The 24 year old has now scored 46 points in his last 40 AHL games since the 2013-14 season...Jurco has potted 20 goals with 26 assists in that span, which includes three seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins in 2016-17 (2 pts, 2 games), 2015-16 (9 pts, 5 games) and 2013-14 (32 pts, 32 games).
-Ville Pokka recorded his assist while on the power play during Saturday's game...Pokka led all IceHogs skaters in power-play points (20) and assists (15) during the 2016-17 season.
UPCOMING HOME GAMES
Saturday, Oct. 14: The Rockford IceHogs host the Iowa Wild for the 2017-18 Home Opener. The first 4,000 fans in attendance will receive a free IceHogs calendar, courtesy of Impact Networking.
Sunday, Oct. 15: The Hogs take on the Milwaukee Admirals on First Responders and Touch-A-Truck night, where local police, EMS and Fire Fighters will be on-hand and have their specialty vehicles on display prior to the game. Sunday is also the first Kids Eat Free day of the season, and the first postgame Skate with the Hogs.
BUD LIGHT MONTHLY MONDAY HOG TALK AT VINTAGE 501
Bud Light Hog Talk returns to Vintage 501 Monday, October 9 from 6-7 p.m. The first show will feature forward Matheson Iacopelli, defenseman Viktor Svedberg and Head Coach Jeremy Colliton. Vintage 501 is located in downtown Rockford at 501 E. State St. Fans can join broadcasters Bob Mills and Brittany Toolis from 6-7 p.m. on the first Monday of every month throughout the season as the duo chats with IceHogs players, coaches and front office members. For those unable to attend the show in-person, Monday's show will be streaming live on IceHogs.com. "Bud Light Hog Talk" will also be available on www.icehogs.com following the live show. Fans can access the podcast through the "Audio Highlights" link in the "Multimedia" menu.
