Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs wrapped up a perfect 6-0 homestand on Sunday, beating Sioux City 11-3 at Haymarket Park. The Saltdogs have pulled off two sweeps in a row, and improve to 18-23 on the season.

Lincoln left little doubt as to the outcome, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Pichi Balet had an RBI single, Shawn McGill followed with a run-scoring double, and Shea McFeely finished off the rally with a two-run double against Sioux City starter Ty Marotz (2-6). Lincoln added a run in the fifth on another McGill RBI, and tacked on three more in the sixth, one in the seventh and two in the eighth. The last two runs came on a Steve Alexander home run, his eighth of the season.

All the run support was more than enough for Lincoln starter Jonathan Figueroa (3-4), who dominated the Explorers lineup through his first six innings of work. Sioux City was hitless through the first 6.1 innings, causing many fans at Haymarket Park to wonder if Figueroa could work a repeat of the no-hitter pitched by Jarrett Gardner on Thursday. Walter Young spoiled both the no-hitter and the shutout with a solo home run in the seventh, and Figueroa departed later in the inning, having allowed three runs on four hits in 6.2 innings of work while striking out nine. Rookie Tim Brown retired all seven batters he faced in relief to end the game.

Lincoln ended the night with ten hits, and the Sioux City pitching staff contributed ten walks. Balet and Albenis Machado each had two hits, while Balet, McGill, Alexander and McFeely had two RBI apiece for the Saltdogs. Rookie Jake Jadlowski also earned an RBI, in his first professional at-bat.

The Saltdogs will carry a six-game winning streak into a game at St. Paul on Monday night. Righty Jim Paduch will make the start for Lincoln.
