Pensacola Pelicans News Release

Shreveport, LA: The Shreveport-Bossier Captains evened the series at a game a piece tonight, defeating the Pelicans 5-2. Jimmy Heard picked up the win in his professional debut, giving up three hits and no runs. Kyle Middleton was hit for the loss, even though he pitched four innings of no-hit ball, and didn't allow an earned run.

The Captains scored all the runs they would need in the bottom of the fifth. Jose Torres hit a single, and then came around to score on the next play. BJ Wheeler bunted down the third base line. Justin Humphries came from behind the plate to field it, but threw the ball into right field. Torres advanced all the way to home, as Wheeler made it to third. Kevin Griffin followed with an RBI single, and then came in to score when Dwayne White hit an RBI base knock.

The Pelicans made it close in the top of the seventh when Chase Burch hit a one-out single. Rafael Alvarez followed with a walk, and then Luis Bautista hit an RBI-single to bring in Burch. After Luis Gaunce walked with two out, the bases were loaded for Francisco Leandro. He walked, received an RBI, and the Pelicans pulled within one.

The proximity was short-lived, as the Captains added another run in the bottom of the seventh. With two away, Kyle Middleton recorded his seventh strikeout, but it was a passed ball. Jose Salazar reached first, and came in to score when Dwayne White hit an RBI single to right.

The Captains locked the door in the eighth, scoring Chris Garcia on an Andres Rodriguez base hit. Aaron Jackson was on the hill at that point, and finished the evening allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout.

The Pelicans will have Dane DeValk on the hill tomorrow. The Captains will counter with Aaron Cunningham. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
