Wingnuts Clinch North Division

Wichita, KS- The Wingnuts edged the St. Paul Saints 2-1 on Sunday at Lawrence Dumont Stadium to clinch the Northern Division first half title.

Will Savage, fresh off a no-hitter, tossed seven innings, allowing just one run to move to 3-3 on the season. Trailing 1-0, Wichita tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Joe Muich in the third inning and went ahead for good on an RBI single from Stephen Pearson in the fifth. Pearson went 2-3 with a walk and Greg Porter went 3-4 to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.

In the ninth, St. Paul had a runner on third with two out, but Richard Salazar struck out Steve Butler to nail it down. Wichita led the north Division from the third day of the season and has now won a franchise-best eight games in a row.

Their are still six games left in the first half and Wichita returns to action on Tuesday to host the Sioux City Explorers at 7:05 p.m. For tickets call the Wingnuts office at (316) 264-4625.
