Sioux City Explorers News Release
Lincoln, NE.....The Lincoln Saltdogs scored four runs in the first inning on their way to an 11-3 over the Explorers Sunday night at Haymarket Park.
It was the seventh straight loss for the Explorers, their longest losing streak of the season while Lincoln chalked up their sixth straight win.
The four runs in the first inning came off Sioux City losing hurler Ty Marotz (2-6) as Lincoln scored their runs on four hits, including two doubles and a walk.
Meanwhile, Lincoln starter Jonathan Figueroa had a no-hitter going until one out in the seventh inning when Walter Young broke up the no-hit bid with a solo home run. After that, the Explorers added two more runs in the seventh on a two-run triple by Dustin Jones. Figueroa struck out nine in picking up his third win of the season.
Four Explorer hurlers gave up ten walks in the game along with getting ten strikeouts, led by Marotz who had a season high eight strikeouts.
The Explorers had swept Lincoln the last time at Haymarket, but this time it was Lincoln with a three-game sweep of the series.
After an off day Monday, the Explorers will travel to Wichita for a three-game series starting Tuesday against the first half American Association champion Wingnuts.
